VC Seeks Stronger Media Partnership as NUJ Visits FUE Zaria

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has stressed the importance of collaboration between tertiary institutions and the media in strengthening educational development and public engagement.

Prof. Bunkure stated this on Thursday while receiving Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Zaria Unit who paid him a courtesy visit at his office.

The Vice-Chancellor said the media remained critical stakeholders in shaping public perception and projecting the achievements and vision of any institutions to the wider society.

He described journalists as “image makers,” noting that sustained partnership between the University and media organisations would help showcase ongoing reforms and developmental strides within the institution.

Prof. Bunkure also highlighted achievements recorded since assuming office, particularly in the areas of academic development, infrastructure improvement, and staff and student welfare.

According to him, the management was committed to repositioning the University for greater growth, visibility and academic excellence.

He enumerated some success stories of the university including making all examinations ICT-base, introduction of additional courses, promotion of some academic staff to the rank of Professors and Readers as well as introduction of diploma courses on ICT.

Earlier, the Secretary of the NUJ Zaria Unit,.Malam Mustapha Adamu Yauri of the News Agency of Nigeria, said the visit was aimed at strengthening ties with the University management and reaffirming the Union’s commitment to promoting positive developments in the institution.

Yauri said journalists would continue to support educational institutions through responsible journalism and effective dissemination of information to the public.

The Secretary further solicited for enhanced cordial relationship to enable the Journalists discharge their responsibility effectively.
