Christian leaders in Northern Nigeria have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Muslims worldwide as they mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year (Hijri 1447), emphasising the importance of peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance.

They also appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria to consider declaring the Islamic New Year a national public holiday, to allow Muslim faithful celebrate with joy and reflection.

A Kaduna-based pastor and General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor Yohanna Buru, stated this during a visit to Muslim scholars to congratulate them on the important moment.

Buru who congratulated Muslims across the globe, called for intensified prayers for peace, love, and unity in Nigeria and West Africa at large.

He explained that the gesture was aimed at strengthening interfaith relationships and promote peace building efforts between Christians and Muslims in the state and the country at large.

According to him, “It has become a tradition for me to share thousands of peace messages through my social media platforms each Islamic New Year, reaching out to Muslim friends and relations with goodwill and prayers.”

He urged citizens of Kaduna State to continue living in harmony, while supporting government initiatives to foster peace and unity.

“Nigerians must show tolerance, forgiveness, and support the government in promoting national unity while addressing ethno-religious, political, and regional challenges facing the country.

We must remember that we are one family under God,” he said.

“We all believe in the Holy Bible and the Qur’an. Therefore, we congratulate the Muslim Ummah around the world on the arrival of the new Islamic year,” Buru stated.

In a similar message, Pastor John Immanuel called on residents of Southern Kaduna to embrace peace and mutual understanding.

He also extended greetings to Muslims worldwide and prayed for God to bring an end to the rising insecurity challenges affecting peace and stability in northern Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Mallam Idris Musa and Imam Ilyasu Husaine, Muslim clerics, expressed gratitude to Christian leaders for their solidarity and goodwill at the Islamic New Year.

“The celebration of the Islamic New Year is not just for Muslims, but for all of humanity,” they said.

The Islamic New Year commemorates the Hijrah (migration) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Mecca to Medina, an event of great significance in Islamic history.
