NBAIS, to strengthen tie with Sudan University on Arabic, Qur'anic literacy

National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies is to collaborate with the International University of Africa (IUA), Sudan to strengthen academic tie on Arabic and Qur'anic education across the continent.

Receiving the IUA delegation in Zaria, Prof. Yahuza Sulaiman Imam, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NBAIS, said the visit will serve a milestone towards promoting Arabic language and Qur'anic education in academic circle as an instrument of fostering unity among African students.

Prof. Imam while appreciating the team of academics highlighted that NBAIS as a globally recognized examination body is dedicated to advancing Arabic as a course of study and Islamic education.

He explained that the board is a Nigerian regulatory and examination body saddled with the mandate of planning, implementing and regulating Arabic and Islamic studies curricula.

Imam added that NBAIS also has the task of integrating Western and Islamic education (Madrasah system) nationwide, while overseeing the Senior Arabic and Islamic Secondary Certificate Examination (SAISSCE).

He further explained the Board’s role in promoting academic excellence, standardized examinations, and the growth of Arabic literacy in Nigeria and beyond.

The Register highlighted activities conducted by the board to include Examination conduct, Curriculum Development, Regulatory Oversight and Training/Capacity building.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, 
Prof. Muhammad Usman Abdallah, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the International University of Africa, Sudan noted NBAIS outstanding contributions to the development and promotion of the Arabic language in Nigeria and Africa.

He said base on the institute's global recognition, the delegation decided to come to Nigeria to explore areas of collaboration.

Prof. Abdallah stated that IUA Sudan is primarily mandated to provide higher education for African students with focus on the promotion of Islamic studies, Arabic language and research.

"The University also foster development across Africa by cultivating skilled professional, particularly in Shari'a and Islamic studies, while serving as a cultural link between African Muslims and the Arab world.

"So therefore, apart from strengthening collaboration on Arabic and Qur'anic education, the IUA will love NBAIS to be organizing workshops, seminars and educational exchange programmes for our students.

"This will focus on better understanding of  Arabic alphabets, adapting Arabic script for writing Nigerian languages, and supporting the memorisation and learning of the Holy Qur’an." He enjoined.

The DVC however underscored the growing importance of international academic partnerships in preserving Arabic scholarship and expanding access to Islamic and linguistic education across the region.
