From Abubakar Sadiq Mohd, Zaria
Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai has said that entrepreneurship is the key and panacea to sustainable job creation and economic growth in Nigeria.
El-Rufai who was the guest speaker
at the Zazzau Version of Entrepreneurs tagged "Wed Zazzau" held at NAERLS Samaru, Zaria, said entrepreneurs are essential for building value and creating wealth, particularly in a country with a large youth population.
He noted that the private sector is the most sustainable route for creating jobs, and that government should focus on creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
"Entrepreneurship is a key driver of economic growth and job creation, and that government should support entrepreneurs to achieve their full potential." He observed.
El-Rufai who was represented by Abdulhakeem Miko stressed the importance of entrepreneurship training and capacity building in creating a vibrant economy, noted that developing human capital, providing business education and access to finance for young entrepreneurs make the citizens rely solemnly on their own.
The former governor urged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities provided in various sectors, while also navigating challenges such as infrastructure, skills, and access to finance.
In his presentation, Yahya Buhari Ali, Chief Visionary Officer of YBI Group, focused on the reasons small businesses fail and how to prevent failure by establishing the right team.
He stressed that a business venture can not achieve sustainability without a very structured team and highlighted the need to build businesses that can outlive their founders.
Ali pointed out that if a business cannot survive without its owner, it is merely a 'hustle' rather than a sustainable business.
He urged government to provide business infrastructure like access road, electricity and reduce taxation for small and medium enterprises to thrive.
Khadija Suleiman, a lecturer in Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria explained benefits of being self reliance through small businesses especially by women.
She enjoined youth to combine education with skills to avoid over dependence on government and white colour jobs, urging them to thrive and become employers of labour rather than being employees.
Earlier, Bello Yusuf Yusuf, the Convener of programme said the whole idea centred around encouraging young entrepreneurs to thrive while creating a platform of brainstorming with business like minds who has succeeded in their ventures.
